We were glad to stop in for brunch recently.

Did you know that the inn was built in the 1920s, in part for traveling motorists?

Do you know that Tryon was a British official and officer at the time of the American revolution?

Downtown

I never get tired of these 1900-era post card views of downtown Cherry Valley.

What's in the street in the foreground? It's not the memorial.

The Bean

Here's an old photo that showed up on ebay a while back. It's a great look at a delivery wagon and drug store in downtown Cherry Valley.

Right next door is where the Bean seems to be moving in. Word is that their rent got too high at their old location so they're moving here. I hear a sign promises lunch and dinner.

It'll be great to have that shop open again, and if the Bean's fare is anywhere near as good as it used to be, I'll be very happy.

Note: the Bean is now open and seems to be doing fine.

Note 2: Sadly, the Bean is closed. Happily, a new business has moved in to the space, Ampersand.

Church Street

Stone Barracks

The Stone Block house on Lancaster St. was built as barracks at the time of the Civil War.

Judge Morse Office

In 1837 Samuel F.B. Morse visited the Cherry Valley home of his cousin, Judge James Otis Morse. It was here [down the road a piece], with the assistance of Judge Morse and Amos L. Swan, manufacturer of the Cherry Valley Melodian, that Samuel F.B. Morse developed the first working telegraphic machine.
